Le Vacherin, Chiswick Park

There are three words really to sum up this lovely treasure chest of a restaurant in Chiswick – Parisian chic, authentic, delightful – ok so that’s technically four…

Hidden away past Chiswick Park station, this little gem is definitely a sparkling find.  The ambiance is sophisticated and smart, if not a little ‘old’ but in the nicest way possible, with real charm and elegance bringing a taste of exuberant Paris to London.

The staff are meticulous but friendly and of course, Francais!

We order the wine, a Merlot Vdp de l’Herault, Domaine des Moulines 2007 from Languedoc, South West France and have some homemade warm bread and butter.

I start with the Scallops, apple puree, black pudding and Alsace bacon – to say that this is a Seychelles beach on a plate in terms of pleasure means a lot – trust me.  The scallops were perfectly cooked, succulent and delicate mixed with the acidity of the apple and the sweetness of the black pudding and crunch and saltiness of the Alsace bacon.  If only I could trust a fishmonger to sell me fresh fish in SW London, then I would be making this daily…

The boy starts with one of life’s little luxuries – Foie Gras.  Yes, I don’t really care if the goose has been force fed because quite frankly it’s too yummy to think about it – sorry little geese but you’ve never known any better….woops!

Served with warm brioche, radishes and gherkins, it gives the right combination of finesse and excitement.

Next we opt for the mouth watering and exquisite 28 day aged Chateauxbriand, served with french fries, ossobucco and green beans accompanied by a bernaise sauce.  The meat was cooked to perfection with enough blood left over on the plate but without it being overpowering.  The chips were crunchy yet soft and the ossobucco crunchy on the top of the bone marrow and soft and gooey inside.  Mouth wateringly good!

Desert…wait for this…homemade profiteroles with a chocolate sauce.  Profiteroles crunchy pastry on the outside and moist, sweet and soft on the inside with a dark chocolate sauce just to make things that little bit better – YUM!

So, all in all a brilliant evening with amazing food – will definitely be heading there again very soon!!! loved it!!!
